OSPSANTG 116X: Contemporary Chilean Political Culture

Main content start

Instructor: Germán Correa

In the 90's Chile has made impressive strides towards becoming a developed country. Yet, recent studies have shown high levels of alienation and disaffection among significant sectors of the population. The purpose of this course is to examine the roots of this apparent "paradox of modernization". Particular attention will be paid to newly emerging actors in the Chilean political scene, such as the Mapuche organizations, women's groups and the environmental movement, as well as to the new features of the established ones such as trade unions and human rights activists.
